Chapter 2: Masters of Combat

The day has come. The Haikun tournament was in action. The announcer shouted names, and the crowd of spectators erupted in cheers. Carlo was sitting on the bench near the ring with other fighters. He was observing every battle with an agitated fascination. A brazilian capoeira fighter named Joao Mendes faced a towering wrestler from Germany, Klaus Engel. Joao’s body moved like water, fluid and rhythmic. His kicks spun with deceptive speed, striking Klaus repeatedly in the ribs and legs. Klaus retaliated with bone-shaking grapples, slamming Joao into the mat. But the capoeira fighter was relentless. Feinting a high kick, he shifted mid-motion to land a brutal sweep that sent Klaus sprawling. Joao flipped backward, landing with a devastating axe kick to Klaus’s chest. The crowd erupted as Joao claimed victory.
A Cuban boxer clashed with a Muay Thai fighter. The Cuban’s fists were like thunder, his movements sharp and precise. But the Thai fighter countered with vicious knees and elbows, using his clinch to control the tempo. The fight ended in a split-second flurry of strikes, with the Muay Thai fighter landing a spinning elbow to claim the win.
Each match left Carlo more in awe of the diversity and artistry of the fighters. But it also stoked his anxiety. The stakes were immense, and every combatant was here to fight to the death.
The bell rang!
The announcer’s voice boomed:
“Carlo Nawara versus Boris Mutko!”.

The crowd roared as Carlo stood, his muscles coiled with tension. He stepped into the ring, wearing nothing but shorts. His bare feet felt the gritty surface of the ring. Across from him stood Boris Mutko, a mountain of a man. Nearly 185 centimeters tall and weighing 110 kilograms, the Ukrainian boxer exuded raw power. His chest heaved, and his fists, wrapped in red tape, looked like wrecking balls.

“Ha-h… So you’re the little piggy they’re feeding me?” Boris sneered, cracking his neck. “This won’t take long”.

Carlo didn’t respond. He focused on his breathing, his body loose and ready. His small size and speed were his greatest weapons, and he knew he couldn’t let Boris dictate the fight.
The bell RANG!
Boris exploded forward. His fists moved like pistons, each punch was a calculated missile aimed to annihilate. Carlo darted to the side, narrowly avoiding a hook that would have shattered his jaw.
Boris pressed forward, his punches are relentless. Carlo ducked under a devastating uppercut, his heart pounding as the wind of the strike brushed his cheek. He countered with a swift low kick to Boris’s thigh. The Ukrainian grunted but didn’t falter, charging like a bull.
Carlo’s swiftness saved him. He weaved in and out of Boris’s range, landing sharp jabs and kicks to the larger man’s ribs and legs. But Boris’s resilience was monstrous. He accepted every hit and retaliated with bone-shaking hooks. One punch caught Carlo in the side, sending him stumbling. Pain seared through his ribs, but he steadied himself. His mind was racing.

“Stay calm… Find your rhythm!”
Boris lunged again, his fists swinging in a brutal combination. Carlo ducked and spun, his footwork was a quick blur. He landed a spinning kick to Boris’s side, the impact echoing through the arena. Boris growled, his movements growing more erratic as frustration set in.
Carlo saw his opening. As Boris overextended with a right hook, Carlo slipped behind him, locking his arm around Boris’s neck in a dragon sleeper, pulling with every ounce of strength in his lean muscular frame.
Boris thrashed, his massive arms flailing as he tried to break free. His face turned red. Carlo’s muscles burned, but he held on, tightening the hold. The crowd roared, their cheers were deafening.
Finally, Boris’s movements slowed. His body went limp, and the referee stepped in, signaling the end of the fight.

Carlo released the hold, stepping back as Boris collapsed to the mat. His chest shining with sweat heaved as he caught his breath. The crowd erupted in cheers, chanting his name. But Carlo didn’t celebrate. Instead, he turned to Boris and bowed deeply, a gesture of respect for the fellow fighter who had pushed him to his limits.
The moment was fleeting, but it spoke volumes about Carlo’s character. Victory wasn’t just about triumph - it was about honor.

As Carlo exited the ring, his eyes caught a familiar, chilling sight. It was Bolo.
The monstrous Chinese fighter sat on his bench, his dark empty eyes fixed on Carlo. His lips curled into a sadistic grin, and he licked them slowly, like a predator savoring its prey.

“Well done, pretty boy”. Bolo said loud enough for Carlo to hear, his voice dripping with mockery. “You’ll make a fine punching bag when it’s my turn”.

Carlo’s stomach churned. He had faced giants before, but Bolo was something else entirely. The man was an enigma of raw power and menace, and no one among other fighters had seen him in a fight yet. As Carlo sat back on the bench, the adrenaline of victory began to fade, replaced by a gnawing fear. Bolo’s grin, his words, and his sheer presence haunted Carlo’s thoughts.
The Haikun was far from over, and the worst was yet to come.

The atmosphere in the arena was electric as the announcer’s voice echoed:
“Bolo Wei versus Kai Nakamura!”

The crowd roared with anticipation as Bolo stepped into the ring. Only his sheer presence revealed his raw intimidating force. At nearly two meters tall and weighing a massive 160 kilograms, Bolo’s body was an imposing mixture of dense muscle and thick layers of fat that only amplified his brutish appearance. The lioncloth he wore did little to hide his primal form, and his cocky grin suggested he had already decided the outcome of the fight.
22-years old Kai Nakamura ran into the ring. His youthful energy and determination radiating despite the stark size difference. At 170 centimeters and 60 kilograms, he was dwarfed by Bolo, but his confidence in his training showed in his firm stride. Shirtless, his round chest and his compact and defined muscles glistened under the arena lights. The sharp features and focused sight on his beautiful face told the story of a fighter unwilling to back down, no matter the odds.

As the fighters squared off, the crowd buzzed with excitement, eager to witness the clash of starkly contrasting physiques and fighting styles.

The bell rang!
Kai launched into action like an uncoiling spring. He darted around Bolo with incredible speed, his movements a blur of calculated strikes. He aimed a powerful, almost elegant roundhouse kick at Bolo’s side, followed by a swift punch to the midsection.
The strikes landed, the impact reverberating through the arena. But Bolo didn’t flinch. Instead, he chuckled, his voice low and mocking.

“Is that all you’ve got, runt?” he sneered. “Common, boy! Give me more!”.

Kai ignored the mockery. His focus remained unshaken. He spun into a flawless kick, aiming for Bolo’s chest. The crowd cheered as the blow connected, but Bolo merely grunted, his massive body absorbed the impact like a wall. Undeterred, Kai leapt into the air, delivering a double-leg kick to Bolo’s chest with all his might. The force of the attack sent a ripple through Bolo’s massive frame, but he didn’t budge.

“Wow… Not bad, boy!” Bolo said, his smirk widening. “So… You want a real fight, huh?!”.

Bolo suddenly moved, faster than anyone expected for someone of his size. His meaty hand shot out, grabbing Kai’s shoulder and slamming him into the corner of the ring. Kai’s back collided with the unforgiving steel pole, the sound of the impact was sharp and sickening. Kai gritted his teeth in pain, but refused to cry out. He pushed off the pole and swung a furious high kick at Bolo’s face, but the giant easily caught his leg. With a cruel grin, Bolo yanked Kai toward him and slammed him back against the pole.
The crowd winced at the sound of bones cracking. Bolo pressed his body against Kai, pinning him to the pole with the sheer weight if his massive belly.

“So fragile… Do you like it, you little rat?” Bolo taunted, his voice dripping with malice. “This is how real men fight, boy! ”

Kai struggled, his breaths coming in short sharp gasps. But his determination burned brighter. With every ounce of strength he had left, he threw a desperate punch with his right hand at Bolo’s face. The blow landed, snapping Bolo’s head to the side. For a moment, the crowd held its breath. But then Bolo turned back, his grin even wider.

“Oh, you want to fight dirty, you runt…”.

Suddenly Bolo lifted Kai by the neck, pressing him higher against the pole. Kai’s legs kicked uselessly in the air as he gasped for breath. His hands clawed at Bolo’s arm, but the giant’s grip was unyielding.

“Hey, pretty latino boy!!! Watch closely!”. Bolo called out, his gaze locking onto Carlo, who sat frozen in horror on the bench. “This is what happens to little runts who dare step into the ring”.

Bolo leaned in close to Kai’s face, his hot breath brushing against the younger fighter’s skin. With a sadistic grin, he kissed Kai deeply, his lips pressing forcefully against the struggling fighter’s. Kai’s eyes flew open in panic, his muffled protests drowned out by the gasps of the crowd.
The suffocating kiss lingered. It was Bolo’s special signature. When he finally pulled away his thick lips from the handsome face of his opponent, he chuckled darkly at the look of disgust and terror on Kai’s face.

“You are delicious, boy!”. Bolo said, laughing as Kai sputtered and coughed.

But Bolo wasn’t done. He slammed Kai into the pole again, eliciting another sharp crack. Then, pressing his massive belly against Kai’s torso, he began to suffocate the smaller fighter. Kai struggled with everything he had left, his fists pounding weakly against Bolo’s sides. But it was no use. The giant’s weight was overwhelming.

“Go ahead,” Bolo whispered. “Fight hardly! Show me what you got!”.

The crowd froze in silence. Carlo observed the brutal and unfair act in genuine shock. Slowly Bolo stepped back, allowing Kai’s lifeless body to slide down the pole and collapse onto the floor in a heap. For a moment, there was silence, broken only by Bolo’s cruel laughter. He muttered, scooping Kai’s limp form into his massive arms. He cradled the young fighter like a doll. The grin on his face expressed nothing but a twisted satisfaction. Kai was horribly injured, but still breathing.

Turning to Carlo, Bolo grinned sadistically.
“Look at me, Latino boy!”. Bolo said, his voice was low and threatening. “This is for you… A little present to remember me forever!”.

Slowly and accurately Bolo wrapped his giant hands around Kai’s waist. He bent motionless body of a young fighter backward in a grotesque embrace. Cr-r-rack! Kai’s lifeless form twitched slightly before going completely still. His already damaged spine just cracked like a twig. Bolo lifted the lifeless body and paraded his conquest around the ring like a trophy. The crowd was stunned into silence, save for a few murmurs of disbelief.

“Do you like your present, you little shit!” Bolo bellowed, locking eyes with Carlo. Suddenly he tossed Kai’s broken body aside like discarded trash. He licked his lips and smirked. “You have promised me a dance, right? I can’t wait to spend some time together with you!”.

Bolo slowly stepped out of the ring. Carlo’s heart raced as he watched the horrifying display. He felt a mix of terror and anger. But deep down, he couldn’t shake the growing fear that Bolo was unlike any opponent he had faced before – a sadistic monster who thrived on destruction and suffering.
