| Saturday August 29 2026 - Slam MTL 2026 | Wrestling shows |
| About two weeks ago, I attended the Slam MTL Weekend wrestling event. CanWrestle Dave Evans invited me over early to be the dedicated photographer. I got to meet great wrestlers from our gay underground community: Bobby Carter, Barracuda Twin Ducky, Ryan Reilly, Guy West, Steven Snapdragon, Rick Roma, Dalton Hyde, The Quantum Cat, Leon Cyrus. I also got to meet KickSands who was in charge of concessions. I also bumped into the wrestlers you only see when you order from those online video companies. It was surreal to see people like Forrest Taylor, Ben Monaco, Mickey Knoxx, Ollie Watts and Kayden Keller in person. From the audience, I got to meet also wrestler locals like Delmir, TommyV and I think I saw Lucario-MTL, but I'm not 100% sure. Last but not least, I got to meet Bella Rush and her associate again. I haven't seen them for years and they told me they are now at their 8th version of their wrestling location for their wrestling ring. I suppose I can now rent the ring again from now on. The show and the ring was held at a community center called "Bâtiment 7" in the southern district of Montreal. During rehearsal, I swapped between my personal phone camera and my actual Nikon photo camera, but it has been a while since I manipulated it and I have to admit I had trouble taking action pictures with it with moving targets. CanWrestle eventually asked me to swap to videos only because some of the wrestlers wanted full length video match of their performance on stage. The matches were great and the public was riled up. I think there were around 50-100 spectators. I can still hear in my head people chanting: "Make it more gay!", "Kiss him!", "Grab his cock!". CanWrestle had to remind the wrestlers and the audience that we are in a friendly community center where there might be kids hanging around, so we had to keep it family-friendly. 😂 The matches were: - Ducky vs Rick Roma - Ben Monaco vs Dalton Hyde - Ollie Watts vs Bobby Carter (2 out of 3 falls) - The Quantum Cat vs Guy West and Snap Dragon and Enzo Falcone and Rick Roma - Ryan Reilly vs Leon Cyrus and Kayden Keller - Forest Taylor vs Mickey Knoxx Bella Rush, the owner of the ring was our great announcer and Dave Evans (CanWrestle) was the referee. Ollie Watts then went to replace him later as the ref for the Taylor/Knoxx match. The match that got the greatest response from the audience was definitely the handicap match between Kayden + Leon vs Ryan. Ryan was jobbered and clobbered over and over, getting punishment over punishment and the crowd was getting angry at this one-sided job, so Dave Evans ultimately removed his referee shirt, managed to beat the crap out of Kayden and Leon and then proceed to place a semi-unconscious Ryan on top of the two heels for the win. It was your sensational wrestling soap opera drama coming to life and everyone loved it! 🤗 Overall, the show was amazing, but above that was to see all these wrestlers come together, converge to Montreal to bring into fruition a show that brings awareness to the LGBTQ+ community and to also bring the gay wrestling underground to the forefront. I admire all the wrestlers for wanting to show their passion in front of an audience. You can definitely tell that these guys had an awesome time delivering on stage their passion for wrestling. | |
